NOVEX Product Review

Novex My Curls I was chosen to review Novex’s My Curls line and I’m so happy I was because the products are amazing! Don’t believe me? Release your Curls Curly hair needs a lot of moisture, so Novex mixed 7 nutri functional oils in one product, Olive, Argan, Ojon, Monoi, Coconut, Shea Butter and Moringa. This special mix of oils will bring the curls more hydration, nutrition, a powerful anti-frizz action and a spectacular shine. Cranberry, a small but powerful fruit, also helps shape the curls perfectly while maintaining shine. Check out my review!

DIY: Hot Oil Treatment

There are lots of pre-made hot oil treatments out there. However, I like to make my own because it’s cheaper in the long run. I can control what goes into it and pure/raw ingredients give better results. Hot oil treatments have several benefits to your hair. The most pressing is the restoration of moisture balance. Every day our hair is subjected to lots of external elements such as smog, the headrest in the car, random strangers’ hands…not to mention the styling, dying and other things we do that can dry it out or make it brittle. In addition to restoring moisture, hot oil treatments help with dry scalp and frizz while adding body and shine. (Note: If you have dye in your hair, do not use this treatment within three weeks of a fresh application as the oils will strip and remove a significant amount of your dye. It’s best to do a hot oil treatment the week prior to touching up your color.) You should consider doing a hot oil treatment at least once every 4-6 weeks, or more often, especially in the winter months, if you feel your hair is often dry to the touch. Why!?! I stress […]

Hair Density

While hair width measures the width of individual strands of hair, density refers to how closely those strands are packed together on your head. Your hair’s density can also be affected by your hair texture, porosity and width. Knowing your hair density, along with your curl pattern, porosity and width, will help you choose the right products, styles and cuts to maintain the volume of your hair.

HEAT DAMAGE?!?

Here are some tips when recovering from heat damage: Assess the Heat Damage The most important step is to do an initial assessment of the damage.  Are there any straight pieces? Is there a loss of elasticity? Take a look at past pictures and compare your curls. Once looking at pictures, you should be able to determine which sections of your hair has a naturally looser curl pattern vs. hair that is heat damaged. Clarify Your Hair When straightening your hair, you often load your hair with lots of products like blow-dry creams and straightening serums. These products are usually loaded with silcones. It can be difficult to get out with sulfate-free shampoo alone. They may even make your hair look dull and lifeless. To start with a clean state, clarify your hair with your clarifying shampoo of choice or use a clarifying alternative like bentonite clay or apple cider vinegar.  Do Protein Treatments There are lots of protein treatment options on the market.  Aphogee makes both a heavy protein treatment, Aphogee 2-Step Protein Treatment, as well as a milder one Aphogee 2-Minute Reconstructor.  You can also try homemade remedies like egg protein treatments and dark beer rinses. Whatever you […]

Oils you should Try

Oils are the holy grail of products. They work seamlessly as part of the LOC (liqud, oil, cream) method. You MUST add [insert oil of your choice] into your regimen.  A little side note natural oils are great for your hair. You don’t have to use all oils listed below to reap the benefits.  Choose according to what’s available in your area and your budget.
